Very little in this world cannot be fixed over a Venti White Cafe Mocha coffee (with cream) in Starbucks while overlooking people down below in Borders.
My wife assured me today that watching people is legal (although i still am unsure). but while sitting there my eyes came across a section the i don't really venture into. (No, it is not gay and lesbian literature) (but it is fascinating to watch peoples embarrassment as they stroll around, look at the shelves and then realise what they are looking at). The section that interested me today is Poetry. So after my coffee was nothing but cold dregs. down i strolled.
And I bought a poetry book!
maybe even six months ago my eyebrows would have shown some level of disgust at myself as i am not poetic in the slightest. random words never really meant anything to me. today however many of them made sense.
here is one i thought was beautiful.
She walks in beauty
by George Gordon, Lord Byron
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling place.
And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
Note: Apologies to all my friends who may think i am going soft in the head. My wife let me buy the book.
(Dressing up as a bear and reading poetry is bound to have a long term psychological effects, so be alert!)
